Cool Roofs in Paraguay: A Growing Success in Heat Mitigation and Sustainability

Paraguay is emerging as an exciting example of how cool roof technologies can make a meaningful difference in regions facing extreme heat and increasing energy demands. Through a collaborative effort between MACOMA Environmental Technologies and TOPPS Products, a growing initiative is now delivering measurable benefits across multiple locations in Paraguay.

Over the past several months, our teams have implemented cool roof solutions in a variety of facilities, including commercial buildings, warehouses, schools, and industrial structures. The results have been both immediate and remarkable. In many cases, untreated roof surfaces reached temperatures of approximately 150°F (65°C) under direct sunlight. After applying the cool roof coating, surface temperatures dropped to approximately 120°F (49°C) or lower, significantly reducing heat transfer into the buildings.

These improvements are not only measurable but also felt immediately by building occupants. Interior temperatures have been observed to decrease by approximately 10 to 15°F (5 to 8°C), leading to improved comfort, reduced energy consumption, and lower cooling costs. In Paraguay, where summer temperatures often exceed 100°F (38°C), this difference represents a meaningful improvement in daily working and living conditions.

The collaboration between TOPP’S and MACOMA has allowed for efficient deployment and rapid scaling. Local teams in Paraguay have been trained and equipped to apply the coatings using professional airless systems, ensuring consistent quality and reliable performance. The response from building owners and facility managers has been overwhelmingly positive, and demand continues to grow as more stakeholders witness the tangible results.

What began as a pilot initiative is quickly transforming into a broader movement. Paraguay is adopting cool roof solutions across different regions, including urban centers and industrial zones, with additional projects currently in development. The success of early installations has generated strong interest from both private companies and public sector institutions.

Beyond immediate temperature reduction, this initiative supports broader sustainability goals. By reducing the need for air conditioning, cool roofs lower electricity consumption, decrease peak energy demand, and contribute to climate resilience. In regions with high solar exposure, such as Paraguay, cool roof technologies represent one of the fastest and most cost-effective ways to mitigate urban heat.
