This report describes policy used in Germany to encourage the construction of green roofs. The underlying purpose of the report is to offer practical and attainable solutions for sustainable urban development. Specifically, it will assist municipalities in incorporating green roofs into their official plans, policies and operating procedures.
Since green roof policy in Germany is widespread and varied, this report gives a general description of the different types of policy and focuses on four examples to demonstrate how the policies may be implemented. The last chapter contains recommendations for policy makers who want to develop green roof policies.
